Lead Architect, Origo

Biography

Kenneth May is Origo’s Application Architect. He is a versatile, pragmatic, customer-focused IT professional specialising in architecture and system delivery. Ken has knowledge of the entire software project lifecycle and is familiar with a variety of technologies and how to exploit them for business gain.

Graduating with an honours degree in Computing Science from The University of Glasgow, Ken pursued a career at Detica (now part of BAE Systems Cyber Security division) – the only major IT consultancy to specialise in the delivery of intelligence systems. He became a key member of Detica’s Delivery Unit. Ken used his technology consulting, software development and system integration skills to help several large heterogeneous organisations solve important business problems and in particular to turn complex data and information into relevant and useful intelligence. Ken’s assignments covered commercial and government organisations where he delivered various eCommerce, Risk & Compliance Management, Business Intelligence, Customer Relationship Management, Security & Fraud and National Security projects. As a client-facing Principal Consultant, he gained a wealth of experience in the Financial Services sector.

After 5 years in consultancy, Ken joined AEGON UK where he held various architecture roles. He initially provided a Design Authority capability for AEGON’s eCommerce function with specific sign-off responsibility for AEGON’s eCommerce estate. His responsibilities included a system that processes in excess of £100 million per month of pension transactions. Moving to a Solutions Architecture role he led the end-to-end delivery of IT solutions and was key to AEGON’s ability to deliver IT change. Kenneth’s remit was to ensure fit for purpose solutions were provided to the business, providing a link between business stakeholders and other parts of IT. He was heavily involved in strategic initiatives and the feasibility stages of projects.

Ken joined Origo, a not-for-profit FinTech company dedicated to the Financial Services industry, in 2010. As a Standards Architect he was responsible for the development and maintenance of industry data messaging Standards and industry-wide architectures such as Origo’s Process Architecture and Service Oriented Architecture. Since joining the Service Development team in 2014, Ken has had architectural oversight for the Origo Options Transfers Service – a system that has safely and securely transferred over £100 billion since launch. His focus is, however, in the creation of strategic new services including the Origo Integration Hub. This has involved the business and technical design of the services, running and facilitating industry Working Groups and working with suppliers and customers to deliver the solutions to Industry. Throughout his career at Origo, Ken has helped set the strategic and architectural direction for Standards and Service Development.

For the last two years, Ken has been involved in Origo’s Pensions Dashboard project, which he will be discussing during Identity Live.
